Technopolitics is the study of the forms of power that emerge from the entanglement of political and technological systems. It analyses how technologies redistribute capacities for power, shift the boundaries of sovereignty, and transform the very conditions under which societies are governed.
From the 2010s onwards the term “technopolitics” appears in the anglophone literature […]. It was then used to describe citizens taking hold of digital technologies, social media first among them, for the purposes of mobilisation, political conquest, empowerment. Technopolitics as I conceive it operates instead at the level of understanding large political and ideological systems. It is not the offspring of traditional technocritique — or rather, not only. […] Technopolitics carries on part of that critical work, in the first sense of holding its object at a distance, without confusing technocritique with technophobia.
